Man Dies After Self-Immolating Outside Trump's Hush Money Trial

Maxwell Azzarello, 37, Succumbs to Injuries

St. Augustine Resident Identified as Victim

A man who set himself on fire outside the Manhattan court where former President Donald Trump's hush-money trial is being held has died from his injuries, according to U.S. law enforcement officials.

The man, identified as Maxwell Azzarello, 37, of St. Augustine, Florida, succumbed to his burns on Friday night at a local hospital. On Friday afternoon, Azzarello doused himself with an accelerant and set himself alight in front of the courthouse, as attendees entered the building.

Before lighting himself on fire, Azzarello reportedly handed out pamphlets. The contents of these pamphlets and his motive for self-immolating are still under investigation by the authorities.

Azzarello had previously been arrested for trespassing at the courthouse on Thursday. He was released without bail and was scheduled to appear in court on that charge next week.

The incident has raised questions about security outside the courthouse, where the jury in Trump's trial is currently deliberating. Authorities have not yet commented on whether any changes to security measures will be implemented following Azzarello's death.
